Set Matrix Golf started because our founder kept seeing the same problem on other shops' fitting reports: a beautifully dialed driver sitting on top of an iron set that had never been checked against it.
A Spreadsheet That Turned Into a Studio
Our founder spent nine years running fitting bays for two different manufacturers before opening Set Matrix Golf in Rockford in 2016. The recurring frustration was always the same: golfers would come in for a single-club fitting, leave thrilled with the result, then return a year later with a completely different specialist for the next club — and nobody had ever laid the whole bag out side by side.
The fix started as a plain spreadsheet used between sessions to track loft, length, lie, and carry across every club a client owned. It worked well enough that it became the actual fitting method, not just a note-taking habit — and the shop was built around it from day one.
