FAQ

Questions Before You Book

The things golfers ask most often before their first matrix session, answered straight.

What does "matrix fitting" actually mean?

It means every club in your bag — driver through putter — gets plotted on one shared grid of loft, length, lie angle, and target carry distance before we recommend a single spec. Instead of fitting your driver, then your irons, then your wedges as separate unrelated appointments, we check each new row against the rows already on the page.

Do I need to bring my whole bag?

You don't have to, but it helps. Even if you're only booking a single-club session, bringing the rest of your set lets us log its current specs into the matrix so the new club gets checked against neighbors instead of built in isolation.

How long does a full matrix session take?

A complete driver-through-putter matrix session runs 2–3 hours, since we're capturing and cross-checking every category in one visit. Single-club sessions run 45–75 minutes but still get logged against your existing matrix if you bring your current clubs.

Am I obligated to buy clubs after a session?

No. You'll leave with a printed copy of your matrix and our recommendations either way. If you choose to order through us, the session fee is credited toward the build.

What if my current clubs are already gapped correctly?

Plenty of golfers come in expecting an overhaul and instead leave with confirmation that their matrix is already clean, sometimes with one or two small adjustments. That's a completely valid outcome — we're not incentivized to recommend a full rebuild.

How is this different from a normal club fitting?

A normal fitting optimizes one club at a time. A matrix session optimizes the relationships between clubs — making sure no two clubs in your bag are fighting for the same yardage window and that lie angle progresses smoothly from long irons through wedges.

Do you build the clubs in-house?

Yes. Once a matrix is finalized, our bench builds every club to spec on-site and verifies swing weight and frequency before pickup, typically within a week.

Do you fit left-handed golfers?

Yes, our demo wall carries left-handed heads across every major category we fit.

Can you work with a mixed-brand bag?

Mixed-brand bags are actually a common reason golfers book a matrix session — different manufacturers use different length and loft standards, which is exactly the kind of drift a matrix review is built to catch.

What areas do you serve?

Our shop is in Rockford, Illinois, and we regularly work with golfers from Loves Park, Machesney Park, and Belvidere as well.
